Brita Faucet Mount and FilterForGood Giveaway

Two giveaways in less than a week! When it rains it pours. Speaking of water, I'm giving away three Brita faucet mounts and three water bottles, courtesy of Brita, FilterForGood, and The Biggest Loser. As the press release I copied and pasted from said, "Brita and FilterForGood are partnering with The Biggest Loser to eliminate bottled water from the ranch in efforts to help contestants reduce their waists and their waste. Bottled water waste has become a very real environmental concern, with more than 38 billion disposable bottles sent to U.S. landfills last year." This sounded like a good cause, and I'm all for reducing waste, reducing waists, and distributing free water filters.

So, how do you enter my giveaway? I briefly considered making you post recipes again like I did with the chicken giveaway. Then I came to my senses and realized I didn't want to read dozens of entries about the best way to make ice. Instead, post a comment stating what your favorite body of water is and why. This includes oceans, lakes, rivers, that puddle in your backyard. Whatever. Personally, my favorite body of water is the Ohio River because it reminds me of Louisville, Kentucky, the town I grew up in. I will randomly choose 3 winners who will each receive a Brita® On Tap Filtration System (retail value $25.99!) and a 32oz FilterForGood water bottle. It's a nice sturdy bottle in a lovely green color to emphasize green living. I didn't have any Price is Right models handy, but Harold the garden gnome volunteered to model the lovely merchandise below:

Harold the garden gnome makes his modeling debut. Gnome not included.

I'm going to open this contest up to international readers as well, but I have no idea if international faucets will work with the mount. Even US residents should be aware that they might need an adapter. You can enter up until 11:59pm on Saturday, Februrary 2, 2008. And even if you don't win, you can take the pledge to reduce bottled water waste on the FilterForGood site and get some Brita coupons.

Earlier: I support your right to look good
Later: Ain't no sunshine when you're gone

My favorite body of water SO FAR (I plan to visit many more) would have to be Broken Bow lake in Oklahoma. It's the only lake I've ever been in that was so clear and pure you can see to the bottom even pretty far out in it and you're surrounded by mountains. Beyond beautiful, I have great memories of playing in the water and watching the minnows.

My favorite body of water is Piseco Lake in upper New York State. It is my favorite because it reminds me so much of my childhood. My parents used to camp there every weekend from the time the park opened that year to the time it closed. I loved being out in nature....the fresh air....the hiking....swimming.....boating. My parents were very outdoor-sy people. They showed me how to create new friendships, use my mind to entertain myself, and most of all, how to have a great time without a lot of money. Every time I think of that place I always have very fond memories.

I don't really travel much and don't have any fond childhood camping memories so my favorite body of water would have to be the pond in my back yard. It is peaceful to sit out back and look at and my kids will go down there and fish for hours (leaving me alone!)

I love Lake Erie. I grew up about 30 minutes from it so going to the lake was always a treat. I loved going to Cedar Point and looking over the water. Since they cleaned it up I loved swimming in it and wish we would have went jet skiing!

My favorite body of water is a patch of the Pacific ocean along a piece of shoreline in Alaska where I used to go fishing almost every day. It was very peaceful and very beautiful -- although that otter that kept trying to steal my fish off my line was quite annoying. :)

My favorite would have to be the brook that runs behind the neighborhood where I grew up. My friends and I spent hours down there wading and exploring the surrounding woods as we went. There was an area where it pooled behind my government teacher's house where we would try to catch minnows with our hands. On the other side of the street, if you waded in about a quarter-mile, there was a huge rock, big enough for two (short) teens to lie on and relax. The area around the brook is overgrown now, and a lot of the property has changed hands and been posted against trespassing. I'll probably never be able to wade there again, but thinking of the times I did brings back lots of sweet memories.

Maine has a lot of water: lakes, rivers, oceans and bays. Most, with the exception of the very tame Atlantic, have fabulous native american names that are, well, damn near impossible to pronounce being a thick tongued white girl. It's a game in the car on long trips to pronounce them all as we pass their little green state name plates. Piscataquis, Meduxnekeag, Seboeis, Neoutaquet, but my favorite was christened by my friend Sarah after passing a particularly difficult stream. So, "Fucking Indians" stream is my policially incorrect and white guilt favorite.

I love Puget Sound! It's gorgeous and keeps the weather mild year round. The ferry boats that run across it are fun, too.

My favorite body of water is the Atlantic Ocean. Particularly the little bit that stretches over Myrtle Beach. We would vacation there when I was a little kid. And since I've been pretty broke my entire adulthood, I haven't been back in a while. But I think about it all the time. The pink sunsets and the sound of the white bubbly waves. Not much else can compare. It takes me to a different place. I'm not eva the chubby girl, or eva the new yorker, or eva the receptionist. I'm just me. I feel more like me there than anywhere else. Because there nothing else matters.

The Caribbean Sea - I went to Aruba on my honeymoon last year and it was breath taking. I always thought a beach vacation was overrated until I took one.

My favorite body of water is the Kennebec River in Maine. It's a beautiful area (especially near the beginning of the river), and no matter how long I've been away (12 years now) that area will always feel like home to me.

I have two equal favorites: the Hiwassee River in East Tennessee and the Gulf of Mexico, equal probably because I lived near each for about half of my life, and each one is uniquely special to me. Nothing makes me feel like being near the Gulf (and I have two favorite Gulf locations--off Sarasota and also St. George Island in the FL Panhandle) at any type of day, in any mood, at any time of year; it makes me yearn to plumb the depth and breadth and breathtaking mysteries of life--all that is sublime. Nothing makes me feel like seeing the Hiwassee River shimmer in the late summer sunlight as it meanders out of the pine-studded mountains and into the green glory of the Tennessee Valley--it means home, relaxation, warmth, and contentment--comfort food for the soul.

I have very fond memories of Otter Lake-a teeny lake near Parry Sound, Ontario. For years my family rented a cottage on Otter Lake and it was a great lake for swimming, water skiing, tubing, boat rides, and even fishing (if you weren't going for a big catch!) On one occasion we even got to go for a ride in a pontoon plane and land on Otter Lake-super cool when you're 10 years old!!

My favorite is Lake Tuscaloosa here in my adopted home town of Tuscaloosa, AL. I came here to go to college and some how ended up marrying a local and now I call this place home. I've learned to appreciate much of the great landscape we have here including Lake Tuscaloosa which feeds into the Black Warrior River. I love going to his parents lakehouse and going out on the boat and relaxing during the summer. I have a feeling that this will become a favorite pasttime of ours as we begin our new marriage and start a family.

My favorite body of water was the lake at camp when I was a teenager- I could go there anytime, dangle my feet in the water, while laying on the grass, and let my mind and imagination drift, and I had tons of amazing conversations with friends canoeing on the lake, or even just sitting there.

My favorite is the garden pond with the waterfall in our front yard. It is right in front of our living room windows and it is so peaceful listening to the water run over the rocks. We have 15 goldfish in the pond right now and I love watching them glide through the water. The best part of this water feature is the fact that my husband built it himself, he even built the little bridge that crosses it - he's a handy guy I tell ya!

The beautful Gulf of Mexico at Seagrove Beach, Florida is my favorite. It is such a soothing, relaxing and healing place for me. The sound of the waves seem to wash away all my cares and refuel me. I live about six hours away so I don't get to visit as often as I would like. I remember several years ago I yearned to go there because my father had recently passed away from brain cancer and my husband was suffering from a major illness. I desperately needed the peace the Gulf would give. Since I couldn't make the trip at that time, I bought a tape of ocean waves and every night I listened to the tape and was able to relax and sleep.

My favorite body of water is the Pacific Ocean, specifically near the island of Guam. The water is so clean and clear and about 80 degrees all the time. Perfect for scuba diving and looking at all the beautiful tropical fish and even some shipwrecks from WW 2. Mary

My favorite body of water is Puget Sound, even though the Seine is much closer to where I live now (I'm a displaced Seattleite, although very happy in my new home)!

I once visited the Indian Ocean off the coast of Mombasa, Kenya. It is a tidal ocean, warm as bathwater, and in the morning we would go down to the beach and we could walk for ages where the ocean was only a few hours before. Every morning, there was a little tidal pool with a piece of driftwood in it. Under the driftwood two scorpion fish sheltered. They were there every morning that we checked, so I guess they knew to hide there when the tide went out. I liked the idea they lived in the sea together, and sought the shelter of the tidal pool together, two little brightly striped fish. That is one of many fond memories I have of the Indian Ocean.

I'm glad Biggest Loser is promoting this. I'm reading a lot now that the reuseable plactic bottles release a toxin that has been found deadly in rodents. Great. "They" are now saying to use aluminum bottles. I hate the feel of those.
Anyway, my favorite body of water is the Wabash River that runs through Indianna and Illinois. I spent summers with my grandparents in Mount Caramel, Illinois. Driving over the bridge over the Wabash river meant we were entering Indianna. This meant we were headed to a bigger town than Mt. Caramel, with something more exciting to do!

My favorite body of water is the
quarry in Madison, Alabama (I don't have any idea if it has a name), in which my husband and I used to swim and dive and be terrorized by catfish (those things are UGLY). Sadly, the people managing it abandoned it, and no one's allowed to swim in it because they might drown (or be eaten by a giant catfish). I miss that quarry a LOT.

my favorite body of water is the Chattahoochee River in Georgia. yes, it's dirty and polluted. yes, sometimes the water levels can be quite low...but i have fond memories of times by that river! when i was really young, i had my first "daredevil" experience there. three friends and i climbed an old, abandoned bridge that jutted out over the water. we stood on the rusted ledge for a while because i was so scared. finally, a childhood friend grabbed my hand and said, "come on! on the count of three! 1...2...3!!!" he pulled me down with him and i screamed the entire way down. the water was cold, but it was so worth it. i had never done anything so scary before! when i was older, i would take my white german shepherd for runs along the trails near the water. now i live in oregon - and i miss that stinky, polluted chattahoochee river!! :o)

If I didn't have Thantophobia (fear of see/oceans) i would say Hawaii. But since I really hate to be out there in the open, my favourite body of water is my BATHTUB FILL TO THE MAX. I know there wont be any whales out there to kill me and neither will i sink to the bottom of the earth only to be eaten by star fishes. Yes, I love my BATHTUB..its my favourite body of water. :-)

Lake Atitlan in Guatemala reminds me of being reborn. I was 26 and on my first trip to Central America with an uncle and two cousins.

Lake Atitlan is surrounded by three volcanos that puff smoke and let you know that they're alive. I had attempted suicide (story on my blog) a few months before and felt a connection with that area just by being alive. It's beautiful, serene and incredibly colorful...both physically and emotionally.

The native people cluster in pinks, greens, purples, reds and blues walking to and from towns along the roads. I, too, learned to cluster with my people and walk my own roads. They swim, wash laundry, play, and fish in Lake Atitlan. It's a body of water that is full of life and memories.

My favorite body of water is the Susquehanna River which runs by Havre de Grace, MD where I live. There's a lovely boardwalk down by the river and my husband and I spent many evenings walking along it we were dating - and we still do!

OK – I know you said you didn’t want to read long comments…sorry. My favorite body of water is the Mopan River in Belize. My husband and I went there for our honeymoon (a year after we were married and could afford it) and we got to kayak down the Mopan all day long with our guide Henry. It was the most amazing adventure…you will most likely not believe me when I tell you this, but our guide single handedly rescued a bull (yes a HUGE male cow) from the banks of the river. This poor bull came down to the waters edge to get a drink, fell in and got tangled in the vines and was stuck. We had no idea he was there, until we saw our guide kayak over to the edge (he was always by the edge in the shade as he didn’t ever wear sunblock…and boy was he tan!) and stick out his oar and then something massive tried to come barreling out of the water! Needless to say we were shocked and had no clue what was going on. He then told us and as he was telling us what it was, we could barely see its snout sticking out of the water. He said if he didn’t help him he’d drown  So Henry stood up on his kayak balancing on the water, breaking the vines one by one that held the bull in the water. He didn’t want to stand in the water in fear that the bull would step on and break his foot. He got most of the vines off of the bull and then a caballero (cowboy) showed up and had a rope to put around the bulls neck and Henry, slapped pushed and pulled on the bull until they got him up the bank to safety. Poor guy was so tired, he climbed out of the water on his knees. But he made it out. I was cheering. Oh and on the Mopan, we saw locals washing their clothes in the water, kids playing, people and their dogs, saw some little waterfalls, got some leaches on our legs, had iguana’s leaping from tree to tree overhead, saw toucans and got to hold a baby iguana that Henry caught for us for a picture op. It was heaven. One more tidbit of information…now 8 ½ months after our wonderful and amazing vacation…I am due to have our first baby in 3 weeks 

I love Lake Superior, for years it was the closest I ever fot to the ocean, and it's so vast that it feels like it is.

My husband and I went on a cruise to Cozumel for our honeymoon. We went snorkeling in the Gulf of Mexico and it was the clearest, most beautiful turqouise water I've seen. We both love the beach, but had never been snorkeling before. I was really scared. After we jumped in and I got over the initial shock of not being able to breathe through my nose (because of the snorkel mask) it was one of the most intense experiences of my life. We could see all the fish and the coral reefs below us. It was such a great way to experience nature. And then I got stung by a jellyfish. Stupid nature!

My favorite body of water would have to be the Rio Grande because it runs right through the land on our family farm. I didn't grow up here, but my family has always lived here and I used to come visit in the summers and my cousin and I would go play by the river, ride 4-wheelers and be silly kids. I live here now and realize how beautiful and valuable it is.

YAY for being open to international readers! I know they work here in Chile because they have the Brita thingys for sale in rich people supermarkets.

My favorite body of water is Tampa Bay, even though it's stinky and polluted, because one time I saw a sting ray that was like the size of a large trampoline, and various times I have seen dolphins...which supposedly brings good luck. So the bay has brought me good luck. Oh, and once there was a shark in there too, I think...although I might have been hallucinating. I had been pulling an all nighter with a friend in college and we took a break and went on a walk on the Bay thought we saw a shark.

I also like the Bay because right next to it, is the world's longest uninterrumpted connected sidewalk. Runner's paradise!

my favorite body of water is located at rehoboth beach in delaware. it reminds me of how happy my twenties were.

My favorite body of water doesn't exist anymore! It was a pool in a neighbor's backyard growing up that has since been filled in. The pool sides were stone and the inside of it was black. So it was this funky, black-bottom lake-looking pool and I have always wanted one just like it! My family used to have parties over at our neighbors and I have a vivid memory of my dad cannonballing off the poolhouse into this pool and being unable to come out because his shorts had ripped clean off upon hitting the water! It was also the pool I learned to swim in and I remember many fun summers on rafts in that pool.

I went to college at the University of Kansas (go jayhawks!) There's a small pond on campus called Potter's Lake where students go and hang out after classes. Our football stadium is on the opposite end of the same hill. Whenever we win a BIG game against Missouri the students rip the goal posts down, charge up the hill, and throw them in the lake. The university tried to stop the tradition, but an alum donated the money to pay for goalposts whenever they get torn down. Our football team did well this year, but when I was in school winning a BIG game was rare, and it always brought the whole school together.

I have to say my favorite body of water is Lake Tahoe in NV and CA. I live about an hour from here and it is one of the most beautiful places to visit. The water is so clear and blue, but very cold! I have very fond Summer memories of Lake Tahoe and the Tahoe Queen paddle boat is a fun boat ride too :)

ooh finally a contest i'm interested in. i'd have to say the charles river in boston. on the boston side i used to go rollerblading along the river all the time, and on the cambridge side now i go jogging every once in a while b/c they close the street on sundays in the warm seasons.

I'm awfully fond of the many creeks burbling through my town. Today, I choose Fourche Creek (or maybe the watershed). It's polluted and maligned, but the watershed touches the entire region.

The Gulf of Mexico, florida side, is my absolute favorite body of water. Its warm and beautiful and has sea shells for miles, it remind me of my childhood, we went there every summer.

My favorite body of water is the Puget Sound, here in Washington State. We have the greatest weather here, and the Sound provides some great Salmon! :)

Definitely the part of the Hudson River that borders the Bronx. That's where I grew up. Even though it's polluted, I always felt serene when I looked at it.

My favorite body of water would have to be ME, since we are made of mostly water here I am :)

My favorite body of water is the MIGHTY Hudson River, because it is so... mighty. It's a real working river just like it always was - and has THE best daily display of hard-working tugboats anywhere (if ya ask me).

My favorite body of water is the Gulf of Mexico, not the prettiest water but alot of great memories at Panama City Beach, Fl growing up. I love the sound of the waves coming in it's very peaceful.

I love the Gulf of Riga, next to the North Sea. I went to Estonia a couple years ago and spent a few days walking along the (nude and clothed) beaches in Pärnu and then went to an Estonian mudbath spa! I highly recommend it.

My favorite body of water is the Alster, a lake located in Hamburg, Germany.

I used to sit next to the little Alster (Binnenalster) and talk to the swans instead of going to class, and sailing on the big Alster (Aussenalster) with a close hostfamlily friend remains one of the greatest memories of my exchange year.

The Alster is one of the last things I saw while taking the train out of Hamburg when I left. While leaving Hamburg is never fun, it sure is pretty to watch it fade into the distance.

Hands down my favorite body of water is the Ware River in Glocester Co, Va. It's the river my parent's house sits on, and the river where, as a child I learned to sail, swim, and avoid jelly fish. When I go home for holidays I always spend a good amount of time hanging out on the dock reaquainting myself with my roots.

Being from S CA I would say the Pacific Ocean and all it gives us. Thanks for an awesome giveaway!

I have TWO favorite bodies of water.

1) the atlantic ocean, but only in Cape Cod, MA. I live in New Jersey, and am not a fan of the Jersey section of the Atlantic Ocean. Up in Cape Cod, the ocean is relaxing, full of whales, and just breathing in the salt water air takes me back to when I was 7 and first stepped foot in the ocean. I love it.
2) a tiny creek (pronounced crick) in Sullivan County, PA. A friend has a house there, and we spend long weekends there over the summer. The water is so pure, and I've had great memories of tubing and just dipping my feet in on a hot summer day. Except when there's a drought, and it isn't so much a creek anymore, more like a crickle.

Rialto Beach in Washington State at the Olympic National Park. It was the first time I had seen the ocean. I was nine years old and it was magic. I will never forget it.

My favorite body of water is Lake Okeechobee. I used to live in South Florida and its just a fun thing to say. Love yer site!

My favorite body of water is the Columbia River
which divides Washington and Oregon. It's a
very beautiful area that is high on my list of
retirement spots.

Pacific Ocean, especially swimming at night off the coast of CA under a full moon. Incredible.

Thanks for the contest.

My favorite body of water is my 1/2 full bathtub. My 5 month old baby girl loves to take baths and she is all smiles. We give her one every night and she spashes and is totally confident that she is safe. I've never had more fun in water.

Being born and raised on Long Island NY, you see your fair share of water (being an island of course). The Long Island Sound will always have a soft spot in my heart. When I was little my dad would take me there in the winter and we'd walk along the beach and collect the pine cones. We'd be all bundled up and he convinced me that taking the pine cones is illegal, so anytime a cop came i was instructed to "hit the deck". When you're 5 you'll do anything your dad tells you to do.

1. I deleted your blog and added it back to Bloglines and it seems to be working again. Thank goodness, I need my PastaQueen updates!
2. My favorite body of water is the Pacific Ocean. Although Lake Superior is a close second, especially when it's frozen over and you can walk around on it. So cool.

The Chesapeake Bay! I grew up playing in/around it!

My favorite bodies of water would be 1) Atlantic Ocean (simply because I almost drowned in the Pacific); and 2) Lake Superior. It is absolutely gorgeous ~ although very chilly and I wouldn't recommend staying in it for longs lengths of time due to hypothermia.

My favourite body of water is the Strait of Georgia, between Vancouver Island and the mainland of BC. I've spent the last 4.5years riding back and forth across it on the ferries, between my two homes - my parents house in my hometown, and my apartment in the city I moved to for university. Some of my best memories from high school involved sailing among the islands in the Strait, too. The sunsets there are like no other I've seen, and the occasional peek at pods of orcas makes it extra-special.

My favorite body of water is Spencer Lake in Waupaca, WI. We used to swim there illegally because the beach was part of the Bible Camp that we didn't attend. They have since put a fence around the beach. It was the clearest water...almost Holy. :)

I have to go with the Pacific Ocean, specifically the close to shore bit of it just north of Santa Cruz, because the tidepooling there rocks. I once saw a gumboot chiton in a tidepool there, and it was awesome. I am a water junkie, and could really use Britta's help to clean up my scary, scary tap water.

My favorite body of water? The Pacific Ocean, specifically between Santa Barbara and Monterey, CA.

I'd have to say my bathtub. I just love seeing my babies faces when they get to bathe and play in the water. To me it's Priceless!

My favorite body of water is the Pacific ocean off of Hawaii because if I am looking at it I am in paradise

It is very hard for me too choose as I love water. I love the Caribbean Sea because it surrounds the land of my birth (and it's beautiful!). I love the Hudson and East Rivers (dead bodies and all), but if you force me to choose I would have to pick the Willamette River, especially as it passes Eugene, Oregon. I love it when it is calm and I adore it when the water becomes whitewater.

Fun contest. :)

I love the Salzach River, the river that runs through parts of Austria and Germany. It runs right through the middle of Salzburg, Austria, where I spent a semester of college. I sat on the banks of the river almost every day enjoying the beauty of the city and taking time to reflect and enjoy life. The river represents the city and the most relaxing and most fun period of my life.

The last place we lived we had a huge 4 acre pond it was nice, some day I'd like to see the caribbean sea, even though I've never seen it I imagine it would be my favorite body of water.

The English chanel. I used to live in high-rise apartments near London so sitting in my living room, all I could see was clouds and when I stood up and looked down, all I could see was the twinkling blue water and sailboats on the chanel. It was very peaceful. A very nice memory.

My favorite type of water would be a creek or stream. I like them so much becuase they remind me of my Grandparent's farm and all the fun we had playing out there.

Hi PQ! Long time lurker, first time post-er.

Since we're talking about drinking water, I would have to say my favorite body of water is what I like to call "Mom-water." Every night my mother fills the largest glass in the cupboard to the top with ice cubes and then proceeds to fill it to the brim with tap water. As a kid I would say goodnight to my mom at her bedside and her water would beckon me to have a sip. That sip would usually lead to me polishing off the whole glass! My mother, who poured the water for herself, would scold me for drinking her lusciously cold water and make me re-fill her glass to my great dismay (to a teenager this can be quite annoying). On other nights knowing that her water was so tasty I would prepare my own glass, but for some reason, her water always tasted better (I have tested this hypothesis several times with similar results. Mom-water rules!). To this day her water is the BEST TASTING WATER I have ever tried in my life. No matter what state, city, house we live in, Mom-water, hands down, wins every taste test, every time.

Keep up the great work with the blog! Love watching your progress and the tips are great.

My favorite ocean is the pacific. But by far my favorite lake is Lake Crescent in WA state. It's the most beautiful lake I have ever set my eyes on.

My favorite body of water would have to be my sister's swimming pool....just fond memories of seeing my nephew splashing around through the years.

My favorite are the Root Beer Falls (that might be a nickname) on the Cascade River that flows into Lake Superior on the Northern Shore. The water looks like root beer that cascades down multiple levels of rock surrounded by natural stone walls and creates enclosed little pools that you can swim in! Freezing water of course, but so fun!

my waterbed!

I have an awesome little lake in my backyard-- that's why I bought my house. :)

Lake Shasta in Northern California. My Mom's side of the family had reunions up there when I was a kid, and that's where I learned to waterski when I was 7 or 8 years old.

I haven't traveled much, so my water experiences are limited. So I will have choose the Indian River Lagoon in Stuart, Florida (on the East coast, just north of West Palm Beach). I used to kayak a lot there. I have seen dolphins, turtles, and manatees. I have paddled through a rainbow. Yes, I said THROUGH a rainbow. I really miss kayaking there and would love to get back into it.

I love the pond right next to our house. It's so peaceful and really a joy to watch the wildlife in and around it.

My fave would be Lake Erie, because its the only body of water that I have access too!
Fabulous giveaway!

My favorite body of water, although not the cleanest, would have to be the Illinois River. When I was about 8 or 9, my uncle bought a speed boat and used to take us out on the river all the time. I loved that boat and I love the water. Now, my brother-in-law's parents have a cabin on the river and we go there and enjoy cook-outs, boating, and just hanging out with friends and family. It is so peaceful and beautiful! I love it out there!

Close your eyes and picture yourself sitting on a small wood and rod iron bench, nestled into the shore of a strong flowing river. You can smell the water, blue and cool and crisp, as it mingles with the scent of the small town around you – fresh bakery and smoked sausages. The sound of it playing on the rocks sounds like a conversation some people are having on the street corner, just loud enough to be overheard and un-shy, but not overbearing. You can see another town just across the way. Its simple streets lined with classic German houses, and small local businesses. People are walking along the edge in small parks, while others go about their day, working like this is nothing new. But, to you it’s eye opening. It’s an adventure. You’ve always made wishes in fountains in malls, tossing pennies in and hoping they’d come true. So, it only makes sense as you draw one of the first Pfennig you’ve received as change for that day and toss it into the current and make your wish.

This is how I felt on my first day in Germany as an exchange student in high school. Being immersed in so many new and amazing things overwhelmed me. I was feeling tired from trying to switch gears and understand all that was being said to me in a foreign tongue. I needed to get away and relax for just a few minutes and take it all in, so I walked down to the Rhine River, which is now my favorite body of water in the entire world. I was staying in a small town called St. Goar in the Rhine River Valley and we took a ferry across the river everyday for school. It was beautiful and it’s a place I ache for and miss every day.

My favorite body of water is the Mediterranean, which I got to swim in this summer while I was on vacation. So beautiful and blue!

The Pacific Ocean. I grew up on the west coast and some of my best memories are being at the beach with friends or family at night, around a bonfire, listening to music, friendly banter ranging from the innane to the profound with the sound of those powerful waves of the Pacific in the background. But I also love the Pacific because it is so huge---full of great white sharks and bone chilling cold up in San Francisco where I now live, warm and welcoming and some of the best surfing in Mexico and the most beautiful color blue you've ever seen in between Tahiti and Moorea---all in one Ocean.

I love the fact that it is so powerful; it reminds me of my own finiteness, humbles me and is a tangible reminder of how I'm just a small part in a much bigger universe.

But most of all, I love what Tim Robbins' character said about it in The Shawshank Redemption. Andy asks Red if he knows what the Mexicans say about the Pacific and Red responds no. Andy replies, "They say it has no memory. That's where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."

My favorite body of water is the North Platte/Tarryall Rivers. We used to camp on the banks until the area was burned in a really bad fire. Something about sitting in the sun next to a river is just soothing. :)

My favorite body of water in the ocean--any ocean. I love going to the beach, and we only get there every few years. Please enter me in the drawing. Thanks!

My favorite body of water is the Erie Canal (what's left of it) because of the amazing history behind it and it's beautiful to walk on the old tow path.

My favorite body of water is a spring near where I live in Florida called Alexander Springs. It has beautifully clear water, with white sand on the bottom, and is always a cool 72 degrees. You can dive and snorkel there, camp and canoe. But watch out for alligators:~)

Lake Michigan. I like the view from Traverse City, MI where my grandparents used to live.

The Ohio River is the source of my drinking water, so it's a close second.

Lake Superior. I love how big it is! And I love that no matter how hot it gets in Duluth, you have to be crazy to swim in the lake because it is so cold!!!

Just a few miles from Panama City Beach is a small body of water called Phillip's Inlet. Deep blue brackish waters merge with salt marshes and finally open up to the turquoise and azure Gulf of Mexico. My family and friends and I spent many summers swimming, water skiing, tubing, and cooking large pots of gumbo near a little cabin at Phillip's Inlet . When the pass is open, you can take a boat out into the Gulf, but my mom and I preferred to stay near the beach and soak up the sun on the pristine white sand. I only wish the area has remained as clean as I remember it, though development threatens to take over. I long to go back and enjoy those careless summer days!

If I had a vote, it would have to be for Amy and her "Fucking Indians" stream.

I think it is wonderful that Brita & the Biggest Loser are doing this, I have used a Brita jug for years now and there is nothing like having fresh cold water right out of the fridge. Don't count me in your contest,it should go to someone that doesn't have one. I don't like the idea of running the tap until the water is cold enough to drink and as I said I do have the my jug in the fridge.

I just want to say though that my favourite is the Athabasca river & falls in Alberta's Rocky Mountains. It is just so beautiful there.

My favorite body of water would be the Coral Sea - the one that surrounds the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and houses so many beautiful sea creatures!! :)

My fave is Tybee Island, GA. I grew up near Tybee and am hoping to relocate there this summer!

My favorite body of water is in vera cruz mexico, my children loved going to the beach for the first time. You should have seen them, they rolled in the sand until they had sand in every crevie of their body.

Growing up on Long Island I was surrounded by water and spent my summers at either Robert Moses (Atlantic), Callahan's Beach (LI Sound), or at my parents' backyard pool. Now that I am a transplanted New Yorker living in Southern CA, I have to say that my most recent favorite body of water was seen a few days ago after a rainfall that left water rushing down the arroyo behind our home. After not seeing very much water or rain in the last eighteen months, both my boyfriend and I stood watching, a little teary eyed, as if we had seen the first snow fall of winter. It was a beautiful thing. How we miss New England.

hmmm...i love the gulf of mexico. i remember watching the sun set over it with my husband (then boyfriend) and having the realization, "I LOVE THIS MAN!".

great contest, by the way! i always enjoy your site.

The Red Sea.

When I was in Egypt, we went to a resort on the Red Sea. It was beautiful and shiny, withy crystal clear blue water that you could see fish through. We swam with the fish who weren't afraid of us, and snorkeled through coral reef. The view of the sea from the desert was the prettiest thing I'd ever seen.

I guess I have to say the Ohio River as well, I grew up on it and it is the source of many great memories!

My favorite body of water is definitely The Pacific Ocean. I moved to California when I was 12 and soon learned that bliss was boogie-boarding in pummeling waves and stretching out your body on hot, yellow sand. Whether it's at Bodega beach in Northern California or Venice Beach in So. Cal, the pacific ocean has won my heart with its summer lovin' and varying ecologies.

My favorite body of water is the Madawaska river in Eastern Ontario, Canada. It's a lovely river surrounded by forests and small mountains with rushing rapids. Canoers and kayakers love this river because of the rapids. I enjoy it on horseback, riding a trail that winds it's way along the river. Can't wait for summer time to get back there.

The body of water I like most is the one in our bath tub when our son is taking a bath.

I hate to be so boring, but the Pacific Ocean is my favorite. It calms my eyes and soothes my soul. I have so many memories from my childhood and young adulthood of fleeing to the Mt. Tam to watch the sun set of the Pacific or write in my journal at the beach.

My favorite body of water is the Potomac River. I have great memories of long Saturday morning runs watching the sun come up over DC.

My favorite body of water is pretty much any one we happen to find. I live in Kentucky and my family and I go camping every year. We have some of the most beautiful lakes I have ever seen. It makes it all worth while when my 7 year old daughter says her favorite part of vacation is going fishing! She can sit by the lake for hours waiting for a fish to bite. Now, you can't get better than that. :-)

My favorite body of water is the puddle at the bottom of my bath tub. The shower is the one place where I can tune out, not let my mind run a million miles a minute about all the things I have to do, and just take care of myself by feeling warm and clean.

I would like to say my favorite body of water is Lake Michigan since I live just outside of Chicago. However, any time I swim in a lake around here I get a cold sore. Not sure why but I figure some type of organism is living in our lakes that triggers this in me. My husband and I were married in and honeymooned in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. I had never been out of the US prior to then and the beauty of the water there is hard to beat. Even out in the middle of the bay, you could see right down to the bottom!

My favorite body of water is the lake behind my condo. I live in an end unit, and I adore being able to come home after a hectic workday, sit on the patio and unwind while watching the antics of the assorted gaggles of geese that wing or waddle or paddle past. It is also a great reflective pool - To see the moon's reflection dispersed on the water's surface also helps untangle issues in my head and prepare for yet another day.

I LOVE the colorado river... mostly because I love the grand canyon.

My favourite body of water would be the water in the bird bath/bird feeders in the back garden! I can sit inside behind the french doors and watch the various birds come and drink and flutter their wings in it for hours :)

I love Lake Tahoe, my aunt lives there and it is so beautiful.

Thanks for the entry!

Easy. Without a doubt it is the Pacific Ocean... more specifically, the Oregon Coast where my husband and I go every year for our anniversary and where my daughter first put her feet in the sea. :)

Aaw, now, reading through the comments, I see a lot of other bathtub entries, too....so, even though what I wrote earlier is true, I'll add another favorite body of water: my full super soaker, from about 17 years ago. I had it around the time I was getting awkward around the othre neighborhood kids. One summer afternoon, my sister and I were playing with our supersoakers in the yard, and so were the neighbors, and we started a spontaneous water-gun fight that led us running, carefree, through all of our neighbors yards. I was uncharacteristically unreserved, absolutely drenching, and had a blast!

My favorite body of water is the part of the Pacific Ocean surrounding the Cook Islands. THe islands are remote so the ocean is truly in charge. Inside the lagoon the water is so clear and beautiful, but outside it's a dark, deep blue that looks somehow threatening and powerful and beautiful all at once.

My favorite body of water is the Gulf of Mexico because, from Florida, the sunsets are so beautiful.

Guntersville Lake, in Guntersville, AL.

There's a roadway separating two sides of it, and driving on that feels like you're actually driving on the Lake. We had to drive across that to go visit my Gramma, so there are also those wonderful memories.

My favorite body of water would be Lake Sakakawea in Central North Dakota! I went camping with my family many weekends at this wonderful lake! It is the third largest man-made lake in the United States, after Lake Mead and Lake Powell. It covers over 365,000 surface acres and has an extended shoreline of over 1,500 miles.

The reservoir was created with the completion of Garrison Dam in 1956, the second (and largest) of six main-stem dams on the Missouri River built and managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for flood control, hydroelectric power, navigation and irrigation.

The Caribbean. Let's see why: You're out on a sailboat in water that is so clear and turquoise and calm that you think you can't be anywhere more beautiful and then you see a dolphin or an eagle ray pop out of the water an you think oh my gosh this is ridiculous in it's perfection.

It’s tough to pick a favorite body of water because I live in Florida and am surrounded by water everywhere I turn. But, one of the prettiest lakes I’ve ever seen was Emerald Lake in the Yukon part of Canada. The water had some sort of chemical reaction with algae and was a really pretty deep emerald color. It was a spectacular lake in the middle of nowhere. :)

My favorite body of water is Lake Powell; I had many wonderful family vacations there. We went almost every year for fifteen years.

My favorite body of water is Sanford Lake just 5 minutes from my house. It is where my daughter first went out on the boat, road the interube behind, swam and lots of other fun memories for me.

gnome not included? damn.

my favorite body of water is the james river, partially located in beautiful richmond, virginia. it reminds me of being in high school, floating down it in tubes with friends and being in the sun all day! :)
