When I asked you to post what your favorite body of water was for the Brita Giveaway, I was being rather flippant. I thought it was a goofy question to ask people, like "What's your favorite South African mammal?" But – DAMN - you guys really knocked it out of the park. Your comments on water made my eyes wet. After reading all your entries I feel like I've taken a trip around the world, from Kenyan tidal pools populated by scorpion fish, to quarries where you were terrorized by catfish, to iced over lakes where you boot-skated as a child. You shared your happiest memories of living in Paris and Egypt and The Caribbean or just kicking around the creek as a kid.

As I've sat in my one bedroom apartment writing entries, my stat counter never made me realize that I'd had visitors from such beautiful foreign lands. Your posts made me realize beauty can be found anywhere, in oceans on the other side of the world or in the joy of splashing in the bath tub with your newborn baby. Reading your stories about boating on lakes or meditating on beaches have made it obvious that water has a calm and soothing affect on our lives. So many happy memories are tied to being around water. (Brita should take note. They've got the makings of a good ad campaign right here!) Thank you so much for ripping a page out of the scrapbooks of your lives and pasting them on my blog. I just wanted to give away some water filters, but I got 200-something moments of joy instead.

Okay, enough with the sappy, sentimental, shit. Since there were so many entries, I took special care to make sure no one cheated and entered twice. I wrote a script that pulled all the comments from the database and checked for duplicate e-mails and IP addresses to make sure everything was on the level. Then I got out the random number generator and I'm happy to announce that the winners were Jessica, Marianne, and Gwen all who have been contacted and have replied to me. I also wanted to note that the people at Perdue chicken saw the great response to the chicken giveaway and sent me about a dozen more coupons which I have already given away to entrants. (Sorry if this makes the winners feel less special, but more chicken for everyone! Bawk, bawk!) There were lots of interesting recipes left on that post, the strangest of which involved cooking with Diet Coke and ketchup to create a barbeque-sauce-like dish – which I've already tried because I find the idea of cooking with soda fascinating. I expected it to taste like ass, but it was really good! Thanks for the weird recipe, Jacqueline!

Thus ends my corporate whoring and shilling for the day. I hope everyone enjoys their prizes. If you didn't win this time, hopefully I'll have a contest you do win in the future.

Great post!
After going "Awwwww" to all the sentimentality, I then had to laugh at the geekiness of you double checking for duplicate email addresses, and using some kind of number generator!
You are one of a kind!

well crap. guess i'll just throw away a million bottles now. don't let yourself feel guilty or anything.

i kid.

Favourite South African mammal! That would be ME!

Try using google analytics - it doesn't just give you stats, it gives you a map of where your user's are (sort of), and the search words they used to find your blog (which can be hilarious).

PQ - I actually do use google analytics. I just meant that looking at the dots on the map doesn't reveal how beautiful those locations are.

I didn't enter the Brita thing, and was absent from class the day that blog post happened. BUT, I must say I am so very impressed that you took the time to enjoy over 200 responses. And impressed that you wrote this gorgeous post summarizing your comments. ('Cause I got no time to read through them, so I appreciate the summary =)

I made the ketchup-diet coke chicken tonight! except i'm a texas girl, so i made it with diet dr pepper. amazing!

Glad we were able to inspire you for a change--a small drop compared to the ocean of inspiration you've provided for so many of us over the last couple of years!

(OK. Done sucking up now)

I feel famous! I actually got mentioned on PQ's blog :). I am glad you (and Holly) liked the chicken...it has become one of my favorites. The only unhealthy part of it is the high sodium from ketchup, so I have been trying to hunt down a lower sodium version.

I was a chicken winner (bawk bawk!) Thanks PastaQueen!

Ahhhh...I thought I was special. I was so excited to get my free chicken coupon today. I'm going to try the diet coke and ketchup recipe with my free chicken. Thanks!
