Upgrading blog software

I'm upgrading my blog software right now, so I've turned off comments temporarily. Hopefully everything will go smoothly and you'll never noticed the transition on the front end. But if everything goes pear-shaped (just like my figure), that's probably why.

ETA at 12:20pm: Okay, upgrade complete. The comment notification system isn't working and for some reason comment forms are showing up on old entries that I've turned commenting off on. Other than that, I think everything is A-OK. If you run into any problems, please post a comment here with the problem. If the problem is that you can't leave a comment, e-mail me at halfofme [at] pastaqueen (dot) com. Thanks.

Earlier: Snow falling on bloggers

Upgrades are quite painful, especially with wordpress. Is movable type any easier?

I'd give it a B-. I tried just uploading the new version into the old folder as recommended, but it wouldn't work. I had to create a new folder for the installation and go from there. Also, since it was a number upgrade from 3 to 4, I had to alter some of my templates with new tags. However, the new edition has some features that are worth it. I didn't have any horrible database failures and the site remained live through the whole thing. It went pretty well, all in all.

Half of Me is a fascist regime ruled with a benevolent fist by PastaQueen and the macaroni military. Lively discussion is encouraged, but any comment may be deleted or edited according to the whims of your monarch. If you write something nasty, it will be removed, but only after I laugh at you and mock you to all of my friends. Play nice and I won't have to slap anyone with a wet noodle.

Comments are disabled some time after an entry has been posted to help keep the blog on a spam-free diet.
